Discover and Explore your Passion – Annual High School Special Event Series

On April 8, 2014, embark on a journey of metaphors and similes, creation and exploration, rants and raves, snaps and claps and infinite fun! At Poetry Day, you will enjoy workshops taught by our acclaimed faculty, and inventive keynote speaker, an awards ceremony to unveil the poetry winners and more. This year, we’ve also added a poetry slam element that is sure to be electric.

Meet this year’s Keynote Speaker

Mike Albo HeadshotMike Albo is a writer and performer living and loving in Brooklyn. He is the author of the novels Hornito and The Underminer: The Best Friend Who Casually Destroys Your Life (co-written with Virginia Heffernan), as well as the novella, The Junket. He’s performed all over the US and Canada as well as in London, Copenhagen and on top of a bar in Paris. He also performs with Nora Burns and David Ilku in the comedy trio, Unitard, and as a part of the comedy collective, Show Show. Solo shows include Mike Albo, Mike Albo; Spray; Please Everything Burst, My Price Point, and most recently The Junket. His essays, fiction, poetry, non fiction, plays, and humor appear in numerous magazines, anthologies and Web sites. He is also a founding member of the semi-legendary downtown dance troupe, The Dazzle Dancers. Once your school is registered, an email will be sent out to all participating students confirming their registration and explaining next steps. 

Poetry Contest Submissions:

To submit poetry to the poetry contest, please be sure to follow the instructions listed below. Any materials received that are not in accordance with these guidelines may be disqualified.

  • Students may submit up to five pages (single-sided) of poetry (one poem per page for a maximum of five poems).
  • The following information must appear on the front page of the student’s manuscript:
    • Student’s name
    • Student’s grade
    • High school
    • Teacher
    • Title of manuscript
  • The following information must appear on each page of poetry:
    • Student’s name
    • High school
    • Student’s grade
  • Students must participate in Poetry Day to receive an award. All students must attend Poetry Day with a faculty advisor.
  • All Poetry Contest submission must be emailed to adelphipoetryday@gmail.com with the subject “Poetry Contest” by March 28, 2014.
